SEPTEMBER: NEW MEETING ROOM and EARLY MEETING DATE:

Our next meeting will be September 10th, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Grove Avenue Baptist Church. NOTE: Enter the church through the rear entrance closest to the Ridge Road side of the building. Upon entering, look for the first hallway on your right. Go into the first room on your left: Room 166.

We will alter our meeting format for September. Instead of holding a critique session between 4:00 and 5:00, we will have Louis DuMont teach two workshops. Here are the two classes she'll be teaching followed by her BIO.

CLASS 1: WRITING DEVOTIONS: 101

Writing devotionals is a good way for new and accomplished writers to gain publishing credits. Good devotionals are not easy to write. Louise explains how to best use anecdotes, avoid preachy language, and apply sensory images to connect with the reader. She also outlines the basic format of a devotional, defines its function, and offers key advice that will help an author serve God's people through devotional writing.

CLASS 2: KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE / WRITE TO MARKET

Using recent periodicals, Louise shows writers how to focus on a publication's specific audience by analyzing its editorials, advertisements and overall appearance. Following a brief lecture, small groups work on evaluating periodicals using the techniques taught in class. This is a hands-on workshop.

BIO: Louise Bergmann DuMont, is the author of two books Grace by the Cup: A Break from the Daily Grind (Revell) and Faith-Dipped Chocolate: Rich Encouragement to Sweeten Your Day (Revell). She includes among her loves and many interests; her precious family, Biblical archeology, gifted/learning-disabled children and fiction/fantasy writing. Louise's current project is a book for brides and grooms tentatively titled: If a Tux Could Talk: The Men Who Help Plan Their Weddings, and the Women Who Love Them For It.

Up Coming Event: We're Going to Have a Party (Covered Dish)

A committee of RCWW volunteers are planning for our First Annual RCWW Covered Dish Family Dinner to he held Saturday, October 14th at Winn's Baptist Church.
