FOUR RECENTLY UPDATED REGIONAL MAGAZINES
WritersMarket.com lists more than 6,000 opportunities to get paid for your writing efforts. Here are four recently verified and updated listings for regional magazines.
Back Home in Kentucky pays $50-200 for assigned articles and $50-100 for unsolicited articles (so it pays to query first with this magazine). The editors say, "We work mostly with unpublished or emerging writers who have a feel for Kentucky's people, places, and events. Areas most open are little known places in Kentucky, unusual history, and profiles of interesting Kentuckians, and Kentuckians with unusual hobbies or crafts."

Memphis Downtowner Magazine pays a variable rate that typically runs around 15¢ per word for nonfiction articles of 600 to 2,000 words. The editors say, "Actually read the magazine before you pitch. Get to know the regular columns and departments. In your pitch, explain where in the magazine you think your story idea would best fit."

Susquehana Life pays $75-125 for nonfiction features of 800 to 1,200 words. Also send written permission for the publishers to critique your work publicly. Writing clips will be accepted by the publishers on the day of the conference, but will not be returned. Please do not provide original copies.
Individual critiques will not be possible on the day of the workshop.
A brief Q & A time will be provided at the end of each session. Please respect other attendees by focusing questions on the material presented.

Coleen Kenny began writing poetry seven years ago, and her pen took on a life of its own. Positive Thinking and War Cry have published her articles, and she’s had devotionals and articles included in anthologies. She is a nurse practitioner, speaker and storyteller. Coleen will cover two areas of interest:
